The ancient heritage of Bangladesh is Mahasthangarh.'Mahasthan' means a place where purity and 'gur' are the fortresses. Mahasthangarh was named for its sacred fort. 13th century's Sanskrit text 'Vallalcharita' is mentioned first in the title of Mahasthan. In another 12th edition of 13th Century, the Koroto Mahatrata is also mentioned in another book. In the same manuscript, there are two other names in the same place - Pundrekshtra, Land of Pundra, and Pundran Nagar of Pundras. In 1685 an administrative degree was described as Mahasthangarh. This oldest and largest city, fortified by mud and red brick, is 1,525 meters long north-south,1,370 meters east-west and 5 meters high from ground level.
